You have completely captured my thinking for the past 2 or 3 years. I have watched the U.S. seemingly move from something I treasured to more closely resemble something I was taught to loathe growing up, the USSR. Closed top-down government trying to rule with fear not care or intelligence. I am really looking forward to a swing back to a government and leadership that more closely resembles the ideals laid out in our founding documents.

Thank you for this post.

the system is flawed like this computer that deleted paragraphs of my response. basically: nature over nurture, and survival vs. morals.....people are too confused, most masses of people are flocks of fear and weakness, looking for some idiot in a monkey suit to follow. it doesnt come down to good and bad it comes down to countries thinking they know what's best. HITLER thought he knew, Bush thinks he knows, its no longer refugees from some colony, america is a fool in a costume of red white and blue. it's jaded and once meant freedom, bravery, and choice.....but no matter what government IS the deciet of the survival instinct wrapped in fake content to follow instead of lead. SUPPORT THE SOLDIERS, NOT THE WAR...nor that APE. (i know...so cliche, right?)

listen to (maynard's version of) IMAGINE & try this...

"Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one" ~ J.Lennon

Idealism is fine, but to believe that America ever lived up to these ideals - or anything close - is unrealistic.

Iran in the 60s, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Cambodia, Diego Garcia, Iraq, Afghanistan. Need I go on?
