Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned…It’s been six weeks since my last post
The cardinal rule of Blogging (which is what I’m doing here) is to post every day. Several times a day if you want loyal traffic (see: kottke.org).
The rule in my family is to drop out of sight for months at a time. Sometimes years. Occasionally decades. It’s been going on for generations, and who am I to flout tradition?
This weblog is for my friends and my family — people far away or close by who want to know me a bit. These people are used to my disappearances. A work colleague describes it this way: “You’re hyper focused when you’re here and then you have to shut off for a while.” She’s right; there’s not much middle ground.
Some see this as a character flaw. I did too, I guess, for a long time. Fuck em. I’ll never be consistently attentive, and some time ago I stopped making excuses for that. To my surprise, a lot of people have stuck with me (…amanda, danielle, manisha).
Whether you’re my mother, my clients, my friends — when you get my attention, you get it all. Expect gaps. It doesn’t mean I don’t love you.
