Four artists to watch

While I can’t imagine owning the furniture at Limn, I love the art they bring in. Here are four of my current favorite artists, some of whom I found at the Limn gallery:

Rex Ray — I hate him because I wish I had made every one of his collages.

Linda Bradford — Her ‘strata mandala‘ images are radical color studies that could only be possible through digital media.

Evri Kwong — Evri’s work has a childlike clarity. It shows the precise ways in which the world is screwed up, but it’s neither trite nor angry. Evri just received the Pollock-Krasner award for 2004, so he’s taking a year off to work. I’m grateful that he was my first painting teacher.

Shazia Sikander — I met Shazia Sikander at the Headlands Center for the Arts, and was astounded. Most of her work is a contemporary application of the traditional Indian/Persian miniature style, but at HCA she showed a Quicktime movie with doves. She’s hot shit, and she’s reinventing the world.
